Here’s exactly what to do. ###### I LOST A PET ### Bring them home - [Post on Petco Love Lost right away.](https://petcolove.org/lost/) - Search social media, local lost & found pages, and yard sale groups. - Post flyers nearby and tell family, friends, and neighbors. - Notify BTAA and local vet clinics, confirm we have your contact info. - Search close to home. A lost cat is usually just 3 - 5 houses away. - If your pet was found and is at our facility, please call or stop by. We’ll do everything we can to reunite you as soon as possible. ###### I FOUND A PET ### Help them find their way - Check for a collar, tags, or an owner searching nearby. - [Post the found pet on Petco Love Lost](https://petcolove.org/lost/) - Share on social media and local online resources. - Talk to neighbors friendly pets often live close by. - Bring the animal to BTAA so we can scan for a microchip. --- ###### ANIMAL CARE ## Community cats ###### Caring for the cats who live among us. Community cats live among us, occupying porches, backyards, alleys, barns and neighborhoods, solo or in groups. Without a home address of their own, these “neighborhood cats” are cared for through community programs like Trap-Neuter-Return rather than being brought into the shelter. Cats are humanely trapped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and returned to their outdoor homes. TNR stabilizes cat populations, improves their health, and reduces shelter intake. For community cats, “return to field” is the best possible outcome. When we find a litter of kittens, our first impulse is to help, but many kittens don’t need us yet. The goal is to keep kittens with their mom as long as possible instead of creating orphans. If they look healthy, wait to see if mom returns. The best place for tiny kittens is with their mother, whose milk gives them antibodies formula can’t. Whatever the reason, we’re committed to working with you to find the best possible outcome for your pet. Before you surrender, consider the alternatives. Our Helpline and the Home to Home™ program may be able to help. Home to Home™ lets you rehome your pet directly to a new family, on your own terms, without a care center stay. **Call us first**. Before scheduling a surrender, reach the Helpline at 208-265-7297 ext. 107. We may be able to help you keep your pet or find a gentler path forward. #### What to bring at drop-off - A valid government-issued photo ID. Without it, the pet is processed as a stray with a 5-business-day hold. - A completed Owner Surrender Questionnaire, fill it out at home for thoughtful, uninterrupted time. - A hard copy of medical records if available, or your veterinarian's contact information.
